REVELATION OR RESISTANCE?

As we journey on our spiritual path greater and greater discernment is needed, especially when it comes to our personal revelations. Teresa of Avila spoke of the many voices within us and how important it is to discern where and whom they are coming from.

Many times I hear of people sitting in prayer or meditation, asking a question, and getting up with what they perceive as their answer because “it feels right.” Now sometimes this is completely valid and the consequences flow accordingly, but other times, we could be simply carrying out our surface will, which of course makes us feel good. And in doing so, we could actually be diverting ourselves away from a greater truth and learning, which may be difficult, even painful, but ultimately liberating.

Certainly we need to be able to trust our own being, but sometimes an old fear or pattern is so well entrenched that we do not even know it is there, and so we blindly walk along, thinking we are having greater revelations than we actually are, and subsequently we do not reach into the depths or heights of our being.

Fears arise also when we start walking closer to the Light, and so we very quickly find reasons not to walk that way anymore, disguising our decision with all sorts of “spiritual reasons.” As Teresa of Avila said, if we are still looking for, or using reason, then we are not moving or living in love. This I have witnessed in my own journey and in others also, because the Light is ultimately exposing – it exposes all the ignorance we still carry in our small hearts – and quite frankly nobody likes to feel exposed, so a quick stage exit is the safest possible action.

2013 is a year of Revelation. Let us be courageous in rigorously probing our smaller personal revelations. Are we walking blindly along, deaf to a greater truth trying to break through? Are we misinterpreting the messages we are receiving? Now, there is an interesting question is it not? Again, understanding that seeking “meaning” is another questioning, and often diminishing of, the Greater Love.

What Light are you walking in, or towards, this month that may be challenging and exposing you – a relationship, a retreat, a new job, a new living situation?

It is the time for deep physical embodiment of the Light, and so the very real physicality and the communion with other souls will be the places shining that exposing spotlight that we all run from.

Instead of running, can we breathe, open, and know there is nothing wrong with being exposed, in fact it is a great blessing to be celebrated in joy, in freedom, and yes, even in laughter, as the greater light then shines through you.

Herein lies a wonderful Equinox message of the Light and Dark in equal measure – ultimately there is no difference, as both Light and Dark, Wisdom and Ignorance, are always moving towards greater liberation and further evolution, and it matters not which one you are dancing in. In fact, dancing in one necessitates dancing in the other. Anything other is like dancing the tango alone.

This also speaks to the crucifixion and resurrection mysteries. We move from one to the other all the time. Now feeling the exposing pain of the wooden cross, now experiencing the liberation of the resurrection of Light, and on it goes. Ah, what joy in the dance.
