FEELING THE SACRED PRESENCE
“Place your heart in the figure of the divine substance
and, through contemplation,
transform your entire being into the image
of the Godhead itself.” Clare of Assisi
Recently, a number of pilgrims and myself, ventured on a pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy. Here is a city where the Sacred Presence is palpably felt with no effort. All that was required was to be open and to create the spaciousness to feel. Some also saw this Sacred Presence with physical eyes in etheric forms. Clare and Francis both made their presence felt and folded each one us into the love that they know so well. Many blessings, deep transformations and healings were experienced by all.
One of the pilgrims upon returning remarked that the pilgrimage was singularly the most deep spiritual experience that she had encountered, and she said she wanted to retain and keep that alive. She did not want to return to the old ways of the mind and its creations. The same thing that was required in Assisi is required no matter where you live, that is, the openness and the spaciousness. We must create the space for the Spirit to be known and felt. The Sacred Presence is around and within us at every moment, but often we are simply too busy distracting ourselves with other “important” things to even notice.
While on the pilgrimage we did Body Prayers and breathing practices, consciously feeling the Sacred Presence in front and behind us, beside, above and below us, within and without. This constant presence of the sacred does not change or leave. Looking at the quote of Clare, she gives us the instruction for knowing and becoming the Sacred Presence. By placing our heart in the divine substance and through contemplation we can consciously be aware of who we are and what presence we are carrying within.
All traditions Buddhist, Sufi, Hindu, Christian all have some form of this contemplation, where they join their hearts and energies to a deity or sacred presence outside of themselves and activate that same energy within they become that deity, they become that Godhead. As a pilgrim said to me, “I am falling in love with Clare, and with the Clare in me.”
May we all take the time to “notice” the Sacred Presence surrounding us, may we practice the conscious recognition of it within us, and may we gently radiate this out into our world, which is hungry and crying for this conscious sacredness to return.
Sending Blessings to All
