Obstructions and Birthing
I was out walking the other day beside a small stream. The stream was flowing silently and with a gentle calm. There was peace all around and in my soul. Rounding a bend I began to hear a stronger sound of rushing water, and I came upon a large log wedged between the banks causing a rapid of water to rush beside and in front of it. I paused to contemplate. And I realized the metaphor for our lives. When there are no obstructions, our life flows in gentleness and calm. But when something lodges, blocking the way, whether it be a thought, belief, emotion or action, then tumult ensues. We usually engage in the tumult for some time, often unconsciously, until we cannot bear it anymore and then we seek to find the cause or obstruction. When we can release it, the water, or our life, becomes smooth and peaceful again.
Though we do not generally like the obstructions, they are necessary for the next stage of birthing our being. Continuing the water metaphor from above, once when white-water rafting I was quite distressed at the level of rapids, “I thought this was the beginner’s river!” And here I was shooting very rapidly downstream straight towards a very large boulder, and after the boulder were rapids that were thundering. Having no experience I began to panic, but quickly realized that was not going to help. Then I was graced with absolute focus and concentration. There was nothing but myself and my paddle, the river, and the rock. I no longer heard the rapids below. With this focused concentration the maneuvers required were made (even though I didn’t cognitively know what they were). Clearing the boulder I then bounced into the rapids, and with the same focus moved through them with ease. In fact, I even remember enjoying them! With a little more time, I was drifting in the calmness of the river’s stream.
It seems that in these tumultuous times, we need to engage, with directed concentration and devotion, in our spiritual practice, and learn to ride the rapids of our lives. Sometimes there are no wedged thoughts or beliefs to be removed, there is simply life staring at you with all her power and rawness. And she asks, “Are you ready to ride?” At other times, she soothes you in the calm stream. A mature soul has no preference, but simply engages with what is. See this life as a birthing adventure. A birthing into the truth of your being and your true life.
I wish you all well for this birthing season, with the Solstice, the birthing of the Christ consciousness, and the divine child within each of us.
Be Well and Know you are Loved beyond compare, Megan

The Celtic Tradition places great importance on the role of the feminine in its spirituality. This feminine quality is expressed through the Truth of Wisdom a power present in the land itself, in the Mother Goddess, and embodied in a woman. We all, both women and men, need to marry this wisdom in order for right-relationship to be had, both with ourselves and with Mother Earth.
In this workshop we will explore what this Truth of Wisdom is, and how each one of us are called to uniquely live this in our daily lives. Using the Celtic inspirations of earth, sea, and sky, and otherworldly realms of existence, we will weave our way in and through myth, poetry, ancestral wisdom, ritual, and practical Celtic spiritual practice. We will use these practices to reveal our hidden truth, honor, and sovereignty.
We will also enter into the Holy Well, that is, through guided meditation and inner journeying, we will enter into the very womb of the Mother to know the healing and unifying powers of the feminine moistness and darkness, discovering what they offer to our world and to us today.
We will write, sing, dance, and honor our ancestors, the land, and our souls.
This workshop is suitable for all persons who want to connect more deeply with the land, the nature spirits, and their feminine self, and to learn a practical path of Celtic spirituality.
Highly recommended for those joining the Ireland Pilgrimage in June 2010.
