SAFETY WITHOUT PLANS
It is often useless to plan for things, even when you know exactly
what you are doing. The present is confounded by the future,
the future is confounded by the future beyond it,
and the memories bubble up in disorder, and the heart
is unpredictable.
-Louis de Bernieres
We are living in uncertain times. This may sound ominous, but really we are only transitioning into a field of awareness whereby there is no more fear of the unknown. Most of us are caught somewhere in between. That is, inherently we know (somewhere deep inside), that we are completely safe in this land of unknowing, and yet somewhere not so deep, old fears still circulate as to our future.
As human beings living now on earth, there are certain things that still need to be planned, but mostly a lot of our plans are an effort to convince ourselves that everything is under control, that we are safe, and that we will be cared for. Most of us act as if we are the ones in charge of all this. And paradoxically we are, and at the same time, we are not. Teresa of Avila came to a place late in her life where she understood that her own soul was now divinely orchestrating her life. Yet, simultaneously she was well aware that it was God who was achieving it all. This is the ultimate recognition of power and humility. Both of these must be present in order for the true self to evolve and to keep evolving.
We would do well to look at how we spend our day. What are we planning, what are we scheming? Are these plans necessary, or are we filling in space in order to keep out the fear? Be honest. We would do better to face our fear and ask for its transformation, rather than mask it by attempting to create a perceived safe future.
Teresa of Avila often experienced plans dissolving, even those divinely guided. As she stopped trying to provide her own solutions and allowed the Spirit of God to resolve the situation, then everything was taken care of. Of course, not always according to her own personal time frame, but this also was her learning; to have complete faith and trust that all was provided.
May we, in these times of unknowing, allow the murmurings of our hearts to lie in the arms of the Mother. May we rest there and let old fears be transformed. May we open to the new fields of awareness and walk boldly forward into our life.
